Maggie & David's Story
Maggie: "We ended up meeting on the coldest day of the year in 2015. My friend had recommended we meet at a nice, rural pub but she obviously wasn't aware that the pub was closed for renovations. After trying the door handle of the deserted tavern, we stood in the frozen car park in a snowy, country lane and burst out laughing...what a good start! Even though we are both well over 60 we decided to walk (or slide) to the nearest town, holding onto each other for support as we went. We initially had lunch in a friendly pub but talked for such a long time that we ordered dinner too. I had no idea that my attempt at internet dating would go so well.
After my husband died I moved to live closer to my children and wanted to meet new people in my new community. I joined numerous local groups and was trying hard to make a new life for myself but I still found myself without male company. For a while I was resigned to the fact that I'd be solitary forever but after two years I saw an advert for Your Perfect Love Match on the TV and decided to take action. I liked how Your Perfect Love Match was more serious and was interested in the in-depth questions asked. I didn't want to just have someone on my arm, I wanted a companion and I did think about subscribing for a long time before I signed up.
I knew on our first date that David was someone I could spend much more time with. After a number of dates to galleries, the theatre and dinners, we realised that we wanted to be with each other for the rest of our lives, however long that may be. We held a joint birthday party in October for all of our extended family and friends to attend. A few weeks previously David had asked me worriedly if I would say yes if he asked me to marry him which I laughed off and told him of course I would, but didn't take his question too seriously. At the party David proposed in front of everyone and I was delighted. I said yes and my friends burst into tears of happiness.
Our wedding will be held in an Open Air Museum in August and we're currently putting plans together to have our reception at my home. I sometimes wonder how it would have turned out if on our first date we have slipped over together in the ice!"
